Facebook conflict and artificial intelligence

Samsung has recently announced a ban on the use of generative AI tools such as Google Bard, Bing, and OpenAI's ChatGPT by its employees. According to a memo reviewed by Bloomberg, Samsung fears that the data transmitted to such AI platforms is stored on external servers, making it difficult to retrieve and delete. Furthermore, Samsung conducted a survey of its employees, which revealed that 65% of the respondents were concerned about the security risks associated with using such services. The company has cited security concerns, especially after an accidental leak of internal source code by Samsung engineers who uploaded it to ChatGPT.

As a result, Samsung has temporarily restricted the use of generative AI until security measures can be put in place to create a secure environment for using it to enhance employees' productivity and efficiency. Samsung has instructed its employees who use personal devices to access such AI tools not to share any company-related information or personal data that could potentially reveal the company's intellectual property. Failure to comply with the new policy may lead to disciplinary action, including termination of employment. Samsung is reportedly developing in-house AI tools for software development, as well as for translation and summarisation of documents.
