Google Introduces Search Generative Experience, Using Artificial Intelligence to Deliver Smarter Answers to Compete with Bing
Google has announced the incorporation of new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities into its primary search tool. This move is aimed at generating more interest among consumers, following the attention that Microsoft Corp's Bing received after its recent updates.
At the I/O conference in Mountain View, California, Google unveiled a new iteration of its search engine called Search Generative Experience.. This upgraded version of Google employs AI technology to offer answers to open-ended queries while retaining its recognizable list of web links.
After taking the stage at the event, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, stated that the company is revamping all of its primary products, including search, to enhance their performance and functionality.
Pichai explained that Google is integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its search function and other services, such as Gmail and Google Photos. This technology enables Google to create draft emails on Gmail and enhance images on Google Photos by adding colors to blank areas and centering objects, among other capabilities.
At the I/O event, Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, revealed to Reuters that the company plans to trial its latest technology with various clients, including Uber Technologies Inc. and Deutsche Bank AG.
In recent years, some companies have leveraged Google's research advancements and integrated them into their own products, sometimes exceeding Google's performance in certain areas.
Following Google's 2017 introduction of an AI system, ChatGPT was unveiled. This chatbot experienced an exceptional growth rate, faster than any other consumer application in history. This encouraged Google to urge its staff to accelerate project development, enabling them to be launched to the public sooner.
In a promotional video earlier this year, Google unveiled its chatbot, Bard. However, the video caused a decline in the company's market value when Bard provided an incorrect response to a question. Nonetheless, Google has since announced that Bard will have a multimodal interface akin to OpenAI's GPT-4, enabling individuals from over 180 countries and territories to utilize the chatbot.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed at the I/O event that the company's chat Bard includes a multi-modal interface that allows users to request it with images in addition to text. This will allow customers to request Bard to generate captions for the images they provide. The chatbot is powered by PaLM 2, a more sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) model developed by Google. The company has asserted that one of the PaLM 2 models is lightweight enough to operate on smartphones.
