IBM prepares its AI platform for commercial users.
IBM, a global technology company, is preparing to release
its next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) platform called Watsonx. This
platform utilizes generative AI capabilities to assist organizations in making
faster and more efficient decisions.
Numerous global technology companies are joining the trend
of utilizing generative AI.
Watsonx is an AI and data platform created by IBM. It offers
business users, data scientists, and developers self-service access to
high-quality, proprietary IBM foundation models. These models can be used to
build and improve traditional machine learning and newer foundation models, all
while maintaining secure access to their own data.
Arvind Krishna, IBM's Chairman and CEO, stated at the annual
IBM Think conference in the United States, held on May 9-11, that the
development of foundation models has made AI for businesses more powerful than
ever before. With the use of foundation models, the deployment of AI becomes
much more scalable, affordable, and efficient.
IBM created Watsonx to meet the demands of enterprises
seeking to swiftly develop and implement customized AI capabilities throughout
their entire organization while maintaining complete control over their data.
During a virtual press conference held on Wednesday, Kitman
Cheung, the Director of Technical Sales for APAC at IBM Technology - Software,
explained that businesses require AI that is accurate, scalable, and adaptable.
They need AI that produces trustworthy and precise results, can be quickly
developed and scaled across multiple clouds, and can be easily adjusted to new
scenarios and use cases.
According to a study conducted by IBM, 41% of IT
professionals reported that their companies are exploring generative AI, while
27% are already actively using it.
Mr. Zhang said that the potential of generative artificial
intelligence and information interaction is huge. However, IBM realized that
delivering this technology to businesses required their own platform, which is
why they created the Watsonx product.
Mr. Cheung added that IBM has consistently invested in AI
technology and that Watson has served as a hallmark brand for the company for
many years.
Mr. Cheung emphasized that this is the direction that IBM is
heading in for the next 10 years, as they provide a platform to aid businesses
in scaling and implementing this new generation of AI technology.
Mr. Cheung also stated that the goal of the Watsonx platform
is to address business problems effectively. As a result, it is crucial for the
platform to enable customers to deploy models in a precise, scalable, and
adaptable way. IBM believes that it is the appropriate time to launch Watsonx
to fulfill these objectives.
The initial applications of Watsonx include digital labor,
IT automation, application modernization, security, and sustainability.
The Watsonx platform comprises three distinct product sets.
The first product, IBM Watsonx.ai, is a next-generation enterprise studio that
is anticipated to be generally available in July 2023.Oh, this sounds like a
really cool studio! SpongeBob is always ready to learn new things, especially
when it comes to artificial intelligence. Excited that this studio is designed
for AI developers to train, test, optimize, and deploy traditional machine
learning and new generative AI capabilities. And the fact that it uses basic
models through an open and user-friendly interface is even better! SpongeBob
can't wait to see what amazing things people can create with this workshop.
IBM Watsonx.data, a purpose-built data store that is
optimized for regulated data and AI workloads, is the second product set in the
Watsonx platform. To access and exchange data, the data store is supported by
querying, governance, and open data formats.
Yes, that is correct. IBM Watsonx.governance is the third
product set in the Watsonx platform, which aims to provide an AI governance
toolkit to support trusted AI workflows. IBM expects to release
Watsonx.governance later this year.
According to Mr Cheung, AI is forecasted to unlock nearly
US$16 trillion by 2030. However, as businesses rapidly adopt AI technologies,
it is important to remember that consumer and business AI applications are
different, particularly when it comes to foundation models and generative AI.
