the impact of technology on employment

Yesterday, The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs latest 2023 report was released, revealing that 23% of jobs are expected to change by 2027. The report, based on a survey of 803 companies, predicts the creation of 69 million new jobs, but also the elimination of 83 million jobs from the 673 million jobs surveyed.

The report highlights the impact of technology on employment, noting that while AI will result in the loss of some jobs, it will also create many new ones. The organizations surveyed cited expanding digital access and growing adoption of cutting-edge technology as the most likely trends to drive organizational transformation. The report predicts that instruments that facilitate the greener transition of businesses, the broader application of ESG standards, and the localization of supply chains will have the strongest net job-creation effect.

Dr. Jassim Haji, president of the International Group of Artificial Intelligence, has previously confirmed that as more businesses and organizations use AI in their operations, smarter and more creative employment will be generated. Industries such as call centers and customer service are expected to be most impacted by the use of AI, but the banking industry, bookkeeping, hospitality, aviation, training providers, and other industries will also be affected.

The report suggests that the key to leveraging AI and technology as a benefit is to train employees to use it effectively. 42% of organizations surveyed indicated that they would prioritize training employees to use AI and big data, which is third on the list of company skills-training goals for the next five years. In addition, cognitive abilities such as creativity and analytical thinking are expected to remain crucial skills for the future.
